Parkview Health Core Tower Expansion
Parkview Health’s new six-story, 168,000-square foot medical tower in Fort Wayne, Indiana, will allow the hospital to add 72 inpatient beds in the top three floors. Roughly 63,000 square feet of the tower will be shell space, allowing for future expansion plans to support forecasted growth.
This 1,690-ton project presented unique challenges, due to its curved geometry and miscellaneous framing for curved brick support around the perimeter. Because most of the grid lines were curved, SDS/2's capabilities allowed Mold-Tek to add real grids in the model for improved fitup. Overall, the project required the creation of more than 5,900 shop drawings, 145 erection drawings and over 6,000 gather sheets.
The Parkview Health Core Tower Expansion project received second place in the Commercial, Small Tonnage category in the 2019 SDS/2 Solid Steel Competition.
