Design Data and CSC to Present BIM Session at 2013 NASCC

Design Data’s Doug Evans will team up with Kevin Lea of CSC to present “The True Benefit of BIM for the Structural Engineer and the Pivotal Role They Play in the BIM Process” at NASCC. The session will be on Thursday, April 18, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Room 260.

Take a look at the course description from the NASCC Final Program:

“Structural engineers and designers use a variety of software packages within their own domain. Although they may build a BIM (or indeed, multiple BIMs), in most cases the construction documents are produced as drawings and handed over as such to the detailer/fabricator who then interprets these drawings before building their own BIM for fabrication purposes. In many ways, the structural engineer’s office can be viewed as a bottleneck in any idealized BIM process. This session will examine and discuss several topics related to improving the workflow both within the structural engineering office and
as it pertains to the sharing of models with steel detailers. Topics will include: Integrating seamlessly among engineering-focused software programs, setting the model up correctly for analysis/design and at the same time for downstream BIM processes to the fabricator, considerations when modeling connections at the design stage to enable downstream BIM processes to the fabricator, and the rewards of downstream BIM collaboration with user experiences.”
