Plasma machines save time while increasing safety for structural fabricatorsAugust 28, 2013
Plasma cutting is becoming a growing part of the fabrication process because of its value, and Design Data partner Controlled Automation is at the forefront of the industry. In an article by FFJournal, structural steel fabricator Herrick Steel, shares some of the benefits it has experienced by using Controlled Automation’s coping machine.
The coping machine is able to do much more than coping for Herrick Steel. It facilitates beam hole placement and even makes welders’ jobs easier later by marking where the welds will be. The machine is able to cut coping time from two to three hours to just two minutes, freeing up workers to do other tasks.
The coper is safer and more versatile than traditional methods because it requires little human intervention. The machine scans the material with a laser and starts cutting right away, and because the unit is self contained, it presents less hazard to workers.
