Design Data Attends Synchro Inaugural User ConferenceFebruary 1, 2012
We recently attended the Synchro Inaugural User Conference 2012, held on January 25 at the Walt Disney World Swan Hotel in conjunction with the Construction CPM Conference. The conference gave an overview of Synchro basics and new features in Synchro v 4.5, expected to be released this month.
For Design Data, the conference was a great opportunity to meet many of the UK-based Synchro employees we’ve been working with via email and phone calls.
Presenters shared several excellent user case studies. To highlight a few:
Rob Owen, Director, Mace Group, presented how they utilized Synchro on a new £9 billion UK nuclear project, the EU’s tallest building, and the major renovation of one of Britain’s largest train station hubs. On the Nuclear project, MACE Ltd. used Synchro to simulate three different scenarios of the site planning to choose the most cost- and time-effective schedule/plan.
Caleb Linn, PE, PCL Civil Constructors Inc., spoke about site management challenges on the Gilmerton Bridge replacement in Chesapeake, Va. He specifically included information about importing subcontractor models for added accuracy and reduced work on the part of the scheduler.
Rich Delacy, Project Superintendent, Hensel Phelps, discussed integrating models for the Kaiser Permanente Oakland Hospital Replacement Project Phase II. His company used Synchro to incorporate many subcontractor models for the project. This coordination helped to adjust the scheduling of subcontractors to avoid potential problems and damage. The project will be completed seven months ahead of schedule and $50 million under budget.
