AISC’s Latest Design CompetitionsOctober 17, 2013
Design Data partner, American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) always has a contest or competition going on, it seems, and that’s certainly the case this season. AISC has several competitions that are going on now or have recently wrapped up.
AISC announced the winners to its 13th Annual ACSA/AISC Steel Design Student Competition at the end of September. The Steel Design Student Competition is intended to challenge architecture students, both working in teams and individually, to learn more about particular issues related to design and construction.
The student-submitted designs for the competition were required to use steel as the main structural material. Innovation in steel design was heavily encouraged for this competition in two categories: Bridge to Building and Open.

In addition to wrapping up the Steel Design Student Competition, AISC just picked the finalists to its steel sculpture contest. This contest was hosted on AISC’s Facebook page, allowing anyone to “like” the photos of up to five sculptures that they wanted to vote for.
The contest received 14 entries and the five finalists with the most “likes” on Facebook were selected to go on to the final round of judging at NASCC in March of 2014. It’s at NASCC that the five finalists will be put on display for attendees to vote for the winner.
