PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: NATIONAL DETAIL'S NIPPERT STADIUM WEST PAVILION

Lincoln, Nebraska-based National Detail was part of the project team that won a Merit Award in the 2017 Innovative Design in Engineering and Architecture with Structural Steel awards program (IDEAS2), presented annually by AISC.

The $86-million addition to the University of Cincinnati’s Nippert Stadium — the third-oldest Football Bowl Subdivision stadium — includes a 115,000-square-foot, 130-yard-long West Pavilion, with premium seating, luxury suites, press facilities and more.

The pavilion wraps the upper west edge of the seating bowl and towers more than 120 feet above the field below. Its dynamic form defines the stadium edge, and a curtain wall with large glass panels facilitates views through and from the structure, showcasing the efficient X-braced structural steel frame that helps to establish the building's identity.

The project — which also won Second Place Commercial in the 2017 SDS/2 Solid Steel Competition — is the March feature in the 2018 SDS/2 calendar.

SDS/2'S PARENT COMPANY ANNOUNCES PLANS TO DEVELOP COMMON DATA ENVIRONMENT

Nemetschek Group — the strategic holding company for digital construction technologies including SDS/2, Bluebeam and RISA — will be developing a common data environment (CDE) that allows all project data, processes, changes and approvals to be stored in a single repository.

The CDE will be based off Bluebeam's existing collaboration platform, enabling Nemetschek to rely on the company's mature technology rather than creating something entirely from scratch. The CDE will also tie the group's BIM servers together to leverage the collaborative strength across Nemetschek's offerings.

When implemented, CDEs reduce project liability due to decreased mistakes and increased project workflow efficiencies.

EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES TO BE ON DISPLAY AT NASCC IN APRIL

SDS/2 will be unveiling exciting emerging technologies the company is developing at this year's NASCC, which will be held April 11th through the 13th in Baltimore, Maryland. The technologies will be highlighted in booth #1200, located next to the main SDS/2 booth in #1203.

In addition to demonstrating new product development, the booth will also be the site of presentations from partners that showcase interoperability and collaboration with SDS/2. Planned speakers include representatives from Bluebeam, Steel Erection Bid Wizard, FabSuite, Aveva, Zeman and Voortman.

Wednesday's schedule of sessions in booth #1200 include presentations from SDS/2 and other Nemetschek brand companies; Thursday's sessions will focus on other partnering companies.
