Watch Out For that Mine Field: Tips and strategies to mitigate risks and avoid common legal pitfalls in the steel industry
The Code of Standard Practice provides that the Owner or Design-Builder is to provide a complete set of structural drawings in order to allow detailing to commence. However, as you experience on a daily basis, the structural design drawings are not 100% complete nor coordinated. This results in numerous RFIs, changes to drawings, and multiple iterations of revising and re-submitting approval documents. Unfortunately, the Owner, Contractor, and Design Team often do not realize how much of an impact incomplete drawings have on the preparation of approval documents, fabrication, and ultimately erection, and then blame the fabricator and detailer for delays. This session will cover tips and strategies to navigate through the incomplete drawing mine field to best protect your company.
